Significance
Selva Sannithi is a popular Murugan temple in the heart of Jaffna town. It serves as a daily spiritual anchor for thousands of Jaffna residents and is particularly famous for its vibrant Thaipusam celebrations that fill the streets of Jaffna with color and devotion. Considered one of the oldest Murugan temples in the region, its history is intertwined with the broader Selangor Tamil community's migration and settlement patterns in Southeast Asia.
Architecture
The temple is built in the Dravidian style adapted to urban Jaffna. The gopuram is 3-tiered with intricate stucco work. The sanctum is relatively compact. The inner walls feature murals of Murugan's life. The Kodimaram (flagstaff) stands at the entrance. The temple has a distinctive yellow and white color scheme.
