Significance
The Sri Murugan Temple in Houston, Texas is the first dedicated Murugan temple in North America. Established by the Tamil diaspora in the United States, it serves as a spiritual anchor for Tamil Hindus across the southern United States and a cultural bridge between India and America.
Architecture
The temple is built in the traditional South Indian Dravidian style with a 3-tier gopuram. The main sanctum houses Sri Murugan with Valli and Deivanai. The temple features a large prayer hall, a separate shrine for Vinayagar, and a sacred pond. The temple is set on several acres of land in the Houston suburbs, with landscaped gardens and ample parking. The vimana is copper-plated.
