Significance
The Malibu Hindu Temple, located in the Santa Monica Mountains overlooking the Pacific Ocean, is one of the most scenic Hindu temples in the United States. While primarily dedicated to Venkateswara and Shiva, the Murugan shrine within the temple complex is deeply revered by Tamil devotees in Southern California.
Architecture
The temple is built in the traditional South Indian (Dravidian) architectural style with a 7-tier gopuram (rajagopuram) at the entrance. The main shrines are dedicated to Venkateswara (Balaji), Shiva, and Durga. The Murugan shrine is located in the outer corridor with a 4-foot idol. The temple is set against the pristine backdrop of the Santa Monica Mountains. The architecture uses imported granite from India.
