The temple attracts over 1.5 million pilgrims during Thaipusam and 3 million visitors annually.
Architecture
The temple is set within a massive limestone cave. The main shrine is inside the Cathedral Cave, 272 steps up. The cave ceiling rises 100 meters above. The 42.7m Murugan statue at the base is made of reinforced concrete and gold paint. Inside the cave, the sanctum houses Subrahmanya with Valli and Deivanai. The Ramayana Cave adjacent features scenes from the epic. The 272 steps are painted in vibrant stripes.
