Significance

Sri Thendayuthapani Temple on Tank Road is the oldest and most important Murugan temple in Singapore. Established in 1859, it is a national monument of Singapore and the center of the country's grand Thaipusam celebrations. The over 165-year-old institution is a cornerstone of Singapore's Hindu heritage.

Architecture

The temple is built in the Dravidian architectural style with a magnificent 5-tier gopuram adorned with 48 intricate bronze and stucco figures. The main sanctum houses Thendayuthapani with Valli and Deivanai. The temple features a gold-plated vimana and a large meditation hall. The temple tank and the beautifully landscaped garden add to the spiritual ambiance. The temple underwent a major renovation in 2010 with the addition of a new community hall.
